Take a Walk on the Wildside on Daydream’s Rainforest Walk

Escape to paradise and discover Daydream Island’s magnificent flora and fauna on one of the island’s most popular attractions, the rainforest walk.

Daydream Island’s picturesque 30-minute rainforest walk is a wonderful way to see the island’s native animals and more than 200 plant species.

Winding its way across the island through historic rainforest, the trail will transport you to a lost world where rock wallabies scamper through the undergrowth and striking red-backed sea eagles soar overhead.

As you stroll through this hidden paradise, you will see groves of Native Holly and Maidenhair Ferns, towering Hoop Pines, graceful Moreton Bay Ash Trees, Cluster Figs, White Cedars, Flame Trees, Lillypillies, and twisting Python Trees.

During this easy and spectacular walk you will be able to capture glimpses of the stunning Whitsunday Passage, sometimes even spotting whales breeching, dolphins frolicking and dugongs.

Coastal birds regularly visit the island and you will see them flying through the blue skies. Species you might see include the lorikeet, shrike, fantail, tern, heron, sunbird, monarch, fruitdove, honeyeater, drongo, currawong, kookaburra and cockatoo.

Scrub turkeys and curlews can also be seen underfoot, scratching for food.

Daydream Island is also home to a myriad of animals, including the rock wallaby, melomy and reptiles like the lace monitor and the green tree snake.

The native plants and animals found on the island are just the same as when Captain James Cook’s botanist Joseph Banks recorded them over 240 years ago.

The lush tropical gardens around the resort are in fact inspired by the island’s historic forest.

Once you’ve finished your leisurely hike, why not relax and unwind with a cold drink by the pool or a massage at the spa?

It’s important to remember that the animals and birds on Daydream are wild. Please don’t feed or approach them – especially the cockatoos.

There’s no other island quite like Daydream, on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. With a fringing reef a mere flipper’s kick from the beach and a Living Reef on the island itself, it’s an incredible place to not only live and learn about one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, but to experience it first hand.
