No need — stinger suits, kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkels are all provided, so you can dive straight into the fun without extra hassle. We do recommend bringing along swim gear for the kids, including rash vests, hats, and goggles to keep them comfortable and protected in the water. Don’t forget sunscreen to stay sun-smart during all your outdoor adventures.
The general store has essentials like soft drinks, snacks, sunscreen, and small packs of nappies and swim nappies, but the selection is limited, and prices reflect its island location. Rooms come with a bar fridge, so packing some fruit, crackers, UHT milk, and the nappies your child prefers can make a big difference.
The Family Holiday Package is a real treat, including a $250 food and beverage credit and Kids Eat Free at select venues, perfect for enjoying proper meals. Keep in mind, though, it doesn’t cover every snack two kids might dream up during your five-night stay.
Rain on Daydream typically means a heavy tropical downpour rather than a full week of rain. But when it rains during a day with the kids, having a plan is essential because water-based activities pause due to the wind and storms.
Stay sheltered at the Living Reef and the underwater observatory (this package offers 30% off Living Reef experiences and access to the daily public fish-feeding show). The activities program moves indoors: trivia, bingo, table tennis, giant chess, bag painting, and the outdoor cinema can be relocated to a covered area.
The Cockatoo Kids Club provides a space for parents to relax if the weather worsens. The rainforest walk remains worthwhile in light rain.
Island meals cost more than the same plate in Airlie. This is because everything arrives by barge, which drives up costs. This package is designed to take the sting out of that, if you use what is already included.
Kids Eat Free applies to children aged 2–12: one meal from the children’s menu plus a soft drink or juice, with a paying adult at the table. Breakfast is at Graze only. Lunch and dinner are at Salti or Infinity only. It is not valid for room service or takeaway, and it is one meal per child per sitting. The $250 food and beverage credit sits on top of that. Most packages also include buffet breakfast for the adults.
What still costs money: adult mains, extra kids’ snacks and the swim-up bar. Book Salti and Infinity as soon as you arrive because a five-night stay with children and no reserved table is how families end up paying for the most expensive fallback on the island.
Daydream is small. You will walk it in 20 minutes. For a family, that is usually a feature, as kids can be independent without crossing a road, but five nights (this package’s minimum) needs a schedule or shape, or the last two days might feel repetitive.
A stay that works typically looks like this:
- Two pool and Living Reef days
- One Whitehaven or reef day trip
- One day out to Airlie Beach
- Kids Club sessions so the adults can do a day spa or a quiet lunch.
- Complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel hire are included, so the water doesn’t have to be a paid tour every morning.
